The goals of Mothers Raising Sons, Inc. are to improve the chances of male children being raised by single parent female household for leading prosperous, productive and fulfilling lives by providing a support network for them to increase their knowledge and improve life skills in addressing issues that affect family.
Through structured programs, MRS provides appropriate models of behavior for children in single-parent homes that take into account the biological and social differences in the needs of male and female children.
A male child’s sense of independence starts early in life and can rapidly get out of control if there is no proper positive male role model to provide guidance for them and to restrain improper expressions of aggression.
Females raising male children/youth who have little to no male role model available, be it a father, friend of the family or a relative, need assistance in raising male children, especially during the impressionable times of learning when the child is in the formative stages of development.
A male role model, or at least an informed understanding of a male child’s developmental needs, is critical during this period.
